Paul McCartney - Dance Tonight

(originally posted to livejournal  @ 2007-06-06 14:03:00)
Current mood: chipper

music is perfect though I swear it's been nicked from some off the radar non mainstream twee pop band, Lyrically it's a bit of fluff but there's nothing wrong with that sometimes, shame he no longer has the voice for it.

video - classic goofy begining, the ghosts dancing arround are allright until it turns 80s/early 90's ultra wackiness - Refridgerater & washing machine ghosts with food & washing hasnging off their clothes (wtf?) looking like somebodies trying to remake Rentaghost - that was bad enough the first time round.
good ending - the band in the box with costumes nearly but not quite works (reminds me of British Sea Power for some reason)
if the whole video was closer to the darker section with the washing machine on fire & Paul being sucked into the box it would be better.

great for grinning like an ideot and singing along changing the lyrics to "everybodys going to dance tonight, eveybody knows this song is shite" - everybodys going to dance around, everybodys going to hit the ground wtf? (somebody couldn't think of a decent rhyme)

If this was an genuininly eccentric genuininly indie band dressing up & acting the parts themselves they'd probably get away with it.

band review: The Hush Sound

(originally posted on livejournal 2007-05-07 20:30:00)
Current mood: curious

triggered by a post on mylot

http://www.myspace.com/thehushsound

I'm checking them out on myspace now - if we had smileys here I'd be posting a great big grin to show my reaction to We Intertwined
just triggered a bout of dancing round the room - and it's just calling out for air drums.
I hear a bit of ELO Mr. Blue Sky in the drums/piano rythm
another song I can't place.
there's another band they sound like on this song also in the genre of catchy goofy indie pop but I can't work out who.
I don't really like Panic! or Fall Out boy much but this lot sound good.
Don't Wake Me Up - sweet serious female vocals then the quirky music & male singers kick in
suggestion of Ben Folds Five and the Beatles (have you seen the little piggies)

Wine Red - instant attention grabbing start from the female singer "Who shot that arrow in you throat? Who missed the crimson apple?" witchy vibes to the tune
shame her vocals then start sounding sterotypically PATD!/Fallout Boy (pseudo)emo
but sort of redeemed by the heavy piano and guitar that comes in and the boys - shame they sound like Maroon Five.  Alright song but would be much better with more origanall/less whiny vocal melody.
Momentum - tender ballard/love song deep vocals bit cliched emo lyrics  "you are the scar on my tissue "
like this one music still good when it gets rockier (nice piano)
if only the vocals were more heartfelt not somebody trying to be Editors, but failing & just ending up like Blink 182 I miss you.

Oh Laura - Release Me*

I am the wilderness locked in a cage
I am a growing force you kept in place
I am a tree reaching for the sun please don't hold me down
Please don't hold me down

currently listening to it on a loop
meant to look for it after briefly catching the saab advert once and a mention on radio one that it was on their website,
thanks to moneysavingexpert I found it.

that advert is beautiful - looks like it's going to be like one of the save the environment/anti polution ones from the early 90's (shame it isn't)
You can watch it and download the mp3 here http://www.saab.co.uk/main/GB/en/index.html [eta: download link is probably long dead, not sure if they've still got the advert up]
(shame saab don't credit the artist &/or link to their site -  too busy plugging their car.)

a bit of digging on google for the lyrics found this blog -http://koko.pelli.co.uk/
reading it while listening to the song moved me to tears

bit of confusion as to whether they're called Laura or Oh Laura

Laura - Release me

I am the wilderness locked in a cage
I am a growing force you kept in place
I am a tree reaching for the sun please don't hold me down
Please don't hold me down

I am a rolling wave without the motion
A glass of water longing for the ocean
I am an asphalt flower breaking free
But you keep stopping me

Release me

Release me
I am the rain that's coming down on you
That you shielded yourself from with a roof
I am the fire burning desperately
But you're controlling me
Release me
Release me

Isn't Stay a lost Pink Floyd classic?

(originally posted to livejournal2007-04-24 00:32:00)

Current mood:  mellow
Current music: Pink Floyd

even if it is about a one night stand.

Pink Floyd - Stay (from Obscured By Clouds*)

Stay and help me to end the day
And if you don't mind, we'll break a bottle of wine
Stick around and maybe we'll get one down
'cause I want to find what lies behind those eyes

Midnight blue, burning gold
A yellow moon is growing cold

I rise, looking through my morning eyes
Surpised to find you by my side
Light my brain, don't try to remember your name
To find the words to tell you goodbye

Morning dews, newborn day
Midnight blue turned to grey
Midnight blue, burning gold
A yellow moon is growing
